COMMUNITY ACTIVIST
At 69 years old, Pittman is the mother of 9 children, 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She was born and raised in Lansing and has been a community activist for over 40 years. She has always enjoyed working behind the scenes with local politicians. She has worked with the city council members, mayors, judges, governers, and even Presidents. Her career started back in the 1960’s, when Joel Ferguson ran for city council.
One of her greatest accomplishments and goals is to get Black residents to register to vote. She is dedicated to the cause and believes that it helps individuals to be self-empowered.
Ms. Pittman also encourages absentee voting. She is also very active in her church, Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, and her senior building at the Riverfront Apartment Building.
