Lansing Boy Drowns at Michigan Lake

Kenneth “Cookie” Frazier, Jr. tragically drowned at a Mid-Michigan state park.   It happened at Tawas Point State Park in East Tawas on Friday, June 25, 2008.  He drowned in Lake Huron while on a weeklong camp trip with other students from the Lansing area.

The 12-year old boy was a student at Otto Middle School who had many friends.  According to http://remembercookie.blogspot.com, which is a blog set up for friends and families to give their messages of support to the Frazier family.

There were many messages of support that were posted.  The blog page stated that “Cookie” was a devout member of Lansing Church of God and Christ.  He was also a member of the churches step team, youth choir, youth praise team and hospitality committee.

“Cookie” was born on February 22, 1996.  “Cookie” leaves behind his parents, Kenneth and Yalanda Frazier; sisters, Ja’nae Embry-Frazier and Kentoria Frazier (twin sister); grandparents, Hattie B. Frazier, Dwight Ford, Rosemary Embry-Robinson, and Rev. Ronnie (Rosell) Bryant; great-grandparents, Mary Ford of Detroit, Rosie L. Embry, Eva Mae Bryant, Rev. Ronnie Bryant, Sr.; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends; Godparents, Ed and Teresa Parker and Godbrother Corey; and very best friends, Talin Thomas and Alonso Gomez.

According to the NBC25, there were many families at the lake during the time of the drowning but didn’t not want to speak on camera.  Some of the adults who were there took the time to post comments on www.weyi.com, NBC25’s website.

On Monday, August 4, 2008, S. Rohn from Midland, MI posted:
“I was on the beach the day Kenneth died…. I wish I knew exactly what had happened. I remember seeing a group of boys out swimming having a great time. I only wish I would have paid a little bit closer attention…”

The funeral was held at New Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Lansing, MI on August 1, 2008. Hundreds of people packed the church to pay their respect to the legacy of a young man’s life and to his family.

The Iosco County Sheriff’s Department is handling the investigation
