Update: Extreme Makeover Home Edition Family Chosen

On September 26, “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” travelled to Holt, Michigan, to tell the Nickless family that their 1860’s farmhouse will be remodeled in only seven days! After husband Tim Nickless passed away in January, Arlene Nickless and her three sons, Aaron, 11, Noah, 9, and Andrew, 7  were left to fend for themselves in the dilapidated home. Therefore, Ty and his designers demolished the Nickless’ old home and built them a brand new one!

Tim Nickless was a true Renaissance man. This loving husband and father to three young boys was not only a respected nurse devoted to his patients but also a gifted craftsman, mentor and environmentalist. As president of the Lansing Area Flying Aces model airplane club, and a member of the Arbor Day Society, Tim had a lust for life and a love for all things living. However after a painful 7-year battle with Hepatitis C, Tim died on January 19, 2008. Arlene and her three boys were on their own in a 148-year-old farmhouse that was in dire need of repairs. Its walls, floors, and foundation were deteriorating, and the old wiring was a fire hazard. Had he survived, Tim would have and could have turned this dilapidated house into their dream home.

While Ty and the designers, local builder Mayberry Homes and hundreds of volunteers and workers built them a brand new home, the Nickless family went on vacation to Disney World.

The design team for this episode of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” will feature team leader Ty Pennington and designers Rib Hillis, Paige Hemmis, Ed Sanders, and Michael Moloney. Construction began immediately after ‘Door Knock’ on September 26th and concluded October 3rd.

The MSU Tuition Promise Grant will fund the full cost of tuition and fees for two years of baccalaureate study at MSU. LCC has awarded separate scholarships to the boys for their first two years. To be eligible for the grant, each of the Nickless boys must successfully complete two years of study at LCC and then meet regular MSU admission standards. The grant must be redeemed by each child within six years of his high school graduation.

The show is scheduled for November or December.
