President Donald Trump announced Saturday, June 21, 2025, that the U.S. military has struck three Iran’s nuclear sites.
Here is what we know so far.
What happened?
Trump said on social media at 6:50 p.m. Saturday that the U.S. successfully attacked Iran’s Fordow, Natanz and Esfahan nuclear facilities. This included a “full payload of BOMBS” on the first site, he said in the post on Truth Social.
The president also said all planes are now out of Iran’s air space.
Has Iran responded?
There has yet to be a formal response from Iran Saturday evening.
However, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned the U.S. on Wednesday that strikes targeting the Islamic Republic will “result in irreparable damage for them.” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei also declared “any American intervention would be a recipe for an all-out war in the region.”
What is the recent lead-up to the strike?
The U.S. attack came over a week after Israel launched its first strike on the heart of Iran’s nuclear and military structure, sparking a conflict between the two countries and raising the potential for an all-out war.
The U.S. in recent days has also been shifting military aircraft and warships into and around the Middle East to protect Israel and U.S. bases from Iranian attacks.
What’s to come?
Trump, who has previously said he wants to keep the U.S. out of costly foreign conflicts, announced on social media he will be giving an address to the nation at 9 p.m. CST.
“This is an HISTORIC MOMENT FOR THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ISRAEL, AND THE WORLD,” the post on Truth Social said. “IRAN MUST NOW AGREE TO END THIS WAR.”
How have Texas politicians reacted?
Several Texas Republicans at both the state and federal levels have voiced their support for the strikes. Some include Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins, U.S. Rep. Dan Crenshaw, U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, Attorney General Ken Paxton, Texas House Speaker Dustin Burrows, state Rep. Nate Schatzline and more.
“I stand with Donald Trump and the United States of America,” Gov. Greg Abbott said in a post on X.
