The Peacock Road Tree Farm Celebrates a Sesquicentennial Birthday Party for The Sprague School!
Saturday and Sunday, October 3rd and 4th

The Peacock Road Tree Farm will celebrate it’s own bit of the Lansing Area’s 150 Year Anniversary with a Sesquicentennial Birthday Party for it’s 150 year old Sprague School!  It’s a one room schoolhouse that was built on the Corner of Woodbury and Winegar Roads in Laingsburg in 1859.  It functioned as a school there for 93 years from 1859 – 1952.  It was restored and moved to The Peacock Road Tree Farm in 2003 and is used, during the farm’s Heritage School Tours, for demonstrating what a school day might have been like in the late 1800’s.   Children sit at authentic antique desks and write on slate boards with soapstone while they are taught lessons by the Schoolmarm at the Sprague School.  An antique piano and potbellied stove are among the relics in the building. The 180 acre Christmas tree plantation is a Farm Heritage Educational Facility that features historic pioneer cabins, antique farm tools, and many exhibits of how our ancestors lived 100 years ago.

School will be in session for the Sesquicentennial Birthday Party and at snack time complimentary birthday cake will be served!

Also at the Peacock Road Tree Farm “Celebrate Fall” Arts and Crafts Festival, October 3rd and 4th, there will be forty talented Artisans who will show and sell their wares.  There will be many demonstrations including chainsaw carving, basket weaving, weaving on a loom, pottery making, blacksmithing, rope making and quilting. There will be an ongoing presentation by members of the Michigan Woodcarvers Association.

There will be also be pumpkins, games, crazy clowns, fabulous face painters, pig races, hayrides, petting zoo, caramel apples, donuts and cider!
