Dr. Jerome L. Reide

Field Organizer, NAACP
Dr. Jerome L. Reide serves as Field Organizer, NAACP primarily responsible for advocacy management of its Midwestern Units. A long-time civil rights activist, Dr. Reide served as Deputy Director, National Field Operations, NAACP, Director, NAACP Midwest Region III, and Regional Development Director, NAACP Special Contribution Fund.
He is Chair of the Legal Redress Committee of the Michigan State Conference NAACP. Jerome Reide serves on the Council of the ABA’s Section of Individual Rights and Responsibilities, (IRR.). Reide recently served as co-editor for an issue of IRR’s Human Rights magazine that covered human rights in natural disasters:

Attorney Reide is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, the American Bar Association and the National Bar Association. Reide’s practice includes public policy, civil rights and probate matters.
Jerome was also Director, Justice Initiatives Division, State Bar of Michigan. Reide was the coordinator of the Access to Justice Project for the ACLU and coordinated a national study of landlord tenant courts and published the findings in a public policy report, Justice: Evicted.
A long time public affairs executive, he was an on-air investigative T.V. reporter for the “Jack Anderson: Confidential,” program syndicated to sixty-five CBS, NBC and ABC affiliates. Reide was executive producer for a Michigan Urban League public policy television series and a Madison Avenue public relations writer for the United Church of Christ.
Reide also helped convene four annual conferences of governmental, community, corporate and academic policy makers to discuss economic development policy in Greater Detroit-Windsor, Ontario, Canada, as a consultant to the Ways & Means Committee, Wayne County Commission. Reide coordinated an international trade mission to South Africa to link the jobs, housing, education, arts and cultural policy initiatives of the Mandela Administration with Detroit’s leadership.
He also facilitated health and educational outreach missions to Ghana, Cameroon, India Liberia and Haiti.
Dr. Reide was an assistant professor in the Interdisciplinary Studies Program, College of Lifelong Learning, Wayne State University. He also taught at Bowie State University, Eastern Michigan University, the State University of New York’s Center for Labor Studies, and Baltimore City Community College. For the Michigan Department of Education he edited the Multicultural Curriculum Resource Guide: African Americans, Asian Americans, Hispanic Americans and Native Americans.
Jerome Reide earned an M.S. in Journalism from Columbia University, a J.D. from Hofstra University Law School, a M. A., in Political Science and his Ph.D. in Political Science – Urban Studies from Michigan State University. He received a B.A. from State University of New York at New Paltz, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude.
