Each year since the murder of Ruth Hallman in 2007 a memory Birthday Party is celebrated to honor her for the work she did in the Lansing community to make all neighborhoods a safer place to live, work and play. Ruth served as a Watch Coordinator, President of her Neighborhood Association and on the North Precinct Advisory Board lending her support and knowledge to enhancing our community.
Over the years Ruth was able to convince City Council to set aside
money from the budget each year to do problem solving in neighborhoods.
This money allowed your team officers the ability to listen to the concerns
of the neighborhood, identify problem and have the resources to solve that problem.
Due to budget issues each year those funds have decreased that is why this
event is so critical to neighborhoods. ALL CONTRIBUTIONS for this
event go directly to the LPD Fund for Neighborhood Problem Solving.
A number of people are donating soups, breads, and sweets to the event and all proceeds will go the “Problem Solving Overtime Fund for LPD”. The suggested donation is $10.00.
This is a community event, this is your event, please help us to make this successful. The Lansing State Journal editorial of August 1, 2007 stated: “We must be tireless. We must be determined. We must be committed. And yes, in some matters, we will need to be fearless. Most of all, we must be devoted. The community owes Ruth Hallman nothing less.”
