Debutantes 2008: Elizabeth Caliman

Elizabeth Caliman

Elizabeth, 17, is a senior at Okemos High where she diligently maintains a 3.7 grade point average in Advanced Placement/college preparatory program.  She has participated in programs through the Gifted and Talented Education including Dimensions, twice attendee MST at MSU (Math Science and Technology at Michigan State University, CHAMP (Cooperative Highly Accelerated Mathematics Program) where she completed four years of high school math in two years and High Achievers where she earn total of six hours of college credit in Microeconomics and Biotechnology at Michigan State University and National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine at Villanova University. Elizabeth is a National Achievement Scholarship Finalist as a result her performance on the PSAT.  She has qualified for the Michigan Merit Award.  Elizabeth has been accepted at Pre-pharmacy programs the University of Minnesota and Purdue University in the and at the University of Michigan where she is being considered for the Honors Program. She has been offered scholarships by all three universities.
 
She has held leadership positions in organizations some of which include Les Meres et Débutantes where has been the Editor in Chief of the Débutante Newsletter and Corresponding Secretary of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated.  Elizabeth has extensive community service experience including volunteering at Advent House, Ronald McDonald House, CROP WALK, Salvation Army, ushering for Riverwalk Theatre and Wharton Center, decorating and hosting at the Governor’s Residence for the holidays and donating Thanksgiving baskets.  She has been employed by Capitol Area Pathology Laboratory (CAP Lab), Kumon Learning Centers and Ingham Regional Medical Center as a Pharmacy Scholar.
 
Elizabeth has been a member of All Saints Episcopal Church since birth and has been an acolyte, usher and reader for several years. Elizabeth has studied piano for several years and has recently begun studying the organ at her church.
