Despite her advanced age and limited English language skills, Salvadoran immigrant Carlota Gutiérrez passed her citizenship test and is a new U.S. citizen.
With the help of her kids, the 80-year-old grandmother applied to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) for citizenship in January 2012 and four months later, on May 23, she got an appointment for the test and interview in her language.

I can not remember my mother ever signing me up for sports. Indeed she drove a station wagon but I think it was to cart the planting and gardening supplies she needed. I learned plenty of things from her but sports was not on the top of the list.

Think of Michigan and the first thing that comes to most people’s minds is the deflated economy. Michigan has lost more than 1 million jobs since 2000 and over a half-of- million homes since the economic crisis in 2005. But Michigan is more than a slumping manufacturing industry, crippled economy and high unemployment. Michigan is home to an industry that is growing faster than its fruitful harvest.
