Start a Business?! How ’bout Occupy Entrepreneurship?

By Chris Rabb

www.newamericamedia.org

I recently came across a pithy, anti-Occupy Wall Street column in Entrepreneur Magazine that encouraged protesters to go home and create start-up ventures instead of standing up for social and economic justice. The column was just under 400 words, but I can summarize it for you: Stop complaining and start a business. Though the conservative argument behind it was neither new nor particularly well-founded, it was aggressively inane and patently misguided all the same.

Bellaire Bridge Calls Me Home…from a memoir written for my Dad

By Nancy Allen

My dad was born in Moundsville, West Virginia, the oldest child of Pap a coal miner and Katherine a Russian immigrant.  The mines and the steel mills were always by the Ohio river where the heart of the city beats and flows.  Everything in the valley runs along side the Ohio River, and the only way that you could get across the river to West Virginia was, and is, the Bellaire Bridge.

Ask Tamara: Betrayed by Family Secrets – Everyone Knew But Me!

    Dear Tamara:

I just found out that my father has a daughter with another woman. Apparently he had an affair on my mother shortly after they were married. The woman contacted my father and now wants to have a relationship with him after all of these years. I also found out that my mother and two siblings already knew about this girl and no one bothered to tell me. Yes I am the baby of the family, but I think I had as much right as everyone else to know the truth. I haven’t talked to my parents or my siblings since they broke the news to me and to tell the truth, I don’t think I am going to any time soon. If they could lie to me all these years about having a half-sister, what else could they be keeping from me? Furthermore, I am angry at my father for betraying my mother. I can’t believe she even stayed with him all of these years!
