Jonathan Owens II, 13, stands behind his parents at their store, Aunt Ethel’s. Jonathan made the emergency 9-1-1 call after his mother had a heart attack,and his father, Jonathan Owen, Sr. (bottom right) did CPR. Mrs. Ethel Owens holds pillow that was signed by the people who helped save her life on that fateful night. After two years, the Owens’ are finally ready to tell their story.

The game of life has many contestants. Some win and some lose. I’d like to think of those who grew up watching actor/director Malcolm-Jamal Warner as winners. He made millions of television viewers laugh with his portrayal of Theo Huxtable, the son of star Bill Cosby’s character on NBC’s hit sitcom “The Cosby Show” (1984 – 1992). Away from the camera Malcolm-Jamal enjoys a good chuckle himself. Born in New Jersey, talk of his home state NBA team tickles his funny bone.

I lost my mother about 4 years ago and I miss her very much. As the saying goes, “You don’t miss someone until they are gone”, it’s so true.
I believe that people who are assaultive – verbally or physically- have no love for themselves and need to rethink what their priorities are in this life. I was recently at a place that I frequent and often see the same people. One of “the regulars” is extremely negative and gossips about others. She reminds me of an egocentric high schooler, who likes to find the weak to prey upon.
