LANSING, MI — As a continuation of our commitment to keep you updated on our “Most Interesting and Most Influential, we are featuring Calvin Jones, who was featured in our 2006 edition.
Calvin Jones was recently promoted to Director – Public Relations, Diversity and Organizational Development.
“Mr. Jones’ extraordinary connections to and knowledge of the Greater Lansing community make him the ideal candidate for this new position,” Lansing Board of Water & Light General Manager J. Peter Lark said. “Our goal is to be a pre-eminent leader in workplace diversity. I am confident Mr. Jones will greatly assist us in attaining that goal.”
Previously, Jones had served as Manager of Governmental Relations for the BWL. Jones has worked for the BWL for 30 years. He is also involved in many community-oriented boards including the Lansing Economic Development Corporation Board, the Lansing Chamber of Commerce, Board of Directors, The Waverly Community Schools Board of Education, the Kim Jones Make It Happen Foundation (Founder and President) and the Michigan Political Leadership Program at Michigan State University.
Jones is married and lives in Lansing.
The BWL is Michigan’s largest public utility, with approximately 97,000 electricity customers and more than 55,000 water customers.
BWL has recently proposed to reduce by $2 the monthly service charge to senior citizens using BWL electricity under its Senior Citizen Rate.
The BWL’s governing Board of Commissioners has set a public hearing date of May 22 to receive public input on the proposed rate restructuring.
If approved, the service charge reduction would be available to all seniors age 65 and older. However, this would only be for seniors who use modest amounts of electricity and who are most financially vulnerable.
