News Spotlight: East Lansing Fire Department Responds to Two Separate, Unrelated Apartment Fires

EAST LANSING, MI — The East Lansing Fire Department is investigating two fires that occurred earlier this week at two different apartment complexes. The fires are not related.

At 2:31 p.m. on Sunday, March 24, a fire was reported at 1375 Compton Court in the Cambria Heights apartment and townhome complex. Fire crews responded, and the fire was brought under control within 20 minutes.

Fire damage was confined to the apartment where the fire started. Two adjacent units had smoke damage. While no one was injured in this incident, four residents have been displaced.

At 8:21 a.m. on Monday, March 25, East Lansing firefighters responded to a dryer fire at 16789 Chandler Road. The fire was confined to one apartment in the 18-unit apartment building in the Landings at Chandler Crossings. The fire was extinguished in approximately six minutes.

Fire damage was confined to a clothes dryer with smoke damage throughout the affected apartment, connecting stairway and corridor. No injuries were reported; however, two residents have been displaced.
