LANSING, MI – On October 9, Cooley Law School, in partnership with the Michigan Department of Attorney General, Safe & Just Michigan, Ascend Co-Lab for Social Equality, and Legal Services of South Central Michigan, held an expungement fair to help qualifying individuals seek removal of certain offenses from their public criminal records.

There were 116 individuals screened through preregistration and onsite walk-ins, with 60 individuals qualifying for expungement. During the fair, volunteer attorneys and law students under the supervision of licensed attorneys assisted 34 qualified guests who attended with their expungement paperwork.

Expungement can help individuals and families by reducing barriers to employment and housing. For example, a parent whose criminal record has limited job opportunities may have a better chance of securing steady work, helping cover rent, groceries, and other household expenses. These opportunities can support greater financial stability for the entire family.

Cooley Law School has hosted several expungement fairs since 2023, helping hundreds of individuals pursue expungement.
