It has been awhile since I reviewed a children’s book. A new book in the Junie B. Jones series is going to get me back on track. For those of you who remember the Judy Blume books and the world popular Pippi Longstocking stories, you can add Junie B. Jones’ exploits to a list of favorites.
“Almost” six-years old and full of spunk, Junie B. Jones finds a way to get herself into a tight spot. The character, a kid’s favorite, is replete with fun, curiosity (which she almost always acts upon) and courage. She and her mother don ’t always see eye-to-eye, but that’s because Junie B. is a handful.
In this story, Junie B. discovers that her Kindergarten class is going on a school trip to a farm. It’s the last place Junie B. wants to visit. She’s got her share of fears about roosters. Then when a classmate starts to tease her and threaten her with something new to be scared of, she decides she doesn’t like farmers either. It’s not a good mix for a little girl about to go on a school field trip to a farm. And that’s the reason Junie B. isn’t up for the trip. Her creative mind goes to work fast. She tries and tries to get out of having to go to the farm. The twists and turns her efforts take her and her teacher on make Junie B. Jones Has a Peep In Her Pocket another good page-turner in the series.
I can’t help thinking that one day these books will become classics. This story speaks to current events that impact a child’s life. It’s stocked with humor. You might find yourself laughing out loud while you turn the pages. If you’re a parent, grandparent or child’s caretaker, you might find yourself reliving mishaps you got into as a child yourself. Reading Junie B. Jones Has a Peep In Her Pocket is like setting aside time to laugh. For parents this book provides an excellent way to teach and encourage your children to read while at the same time they learn how to overcome their own fears and celebrate the wonderful person they are.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
