Nu Resolution

“Can Bush burning start a forest fire?”
It’s abundantly clear many Americans have had enough of George W. Bush. He’s not an eloquent speaker, he attempts humor during times he shouldn’t, and he’s made some questionable decisions on our nation’s behalf. Bush is not the leader many Americans wanted or hoped he’d be.
Americans openly demonstrate their displeasure, especially when displeased with our President. I was in the mall with my fiancé Nicki, and we came across a kiosk of Bush calendars; each one highlighted something our president had done that made him look less than intelligent. Each calendar portrayed him as this loony toon, poor-spoken buffoon. Also highlighted throughout these calendars: The colors red, white and blue.
Freedom of speech and expression is a regularly used American tool. It’s not made of stainless steel either. I know mine has been put to heavy use, and it’s worn. It shows wear and tear. When Americans are upset with someone, especially our president, we lash out with insults, like “Bush is stupid! Bush is an idiot! An RC Cola can full of burnt rat ashes is smarter than Bush! Bush looks like one of The Muppets when he talks, and is just as dumb as the cloth they’re made out of!” Insults like these are heard on our television programs, radio broadcasts, movies and music, and in the privacy of our homes. Americans get online and lash out too. There are websites dedicated to this sort of behavior.
There are also websites dedicated to support George W. Bush, along with a number of television programs, radio broadcasts, movies, music, and calendars. He wasn’t just wished into the White House. The fact is, people voted for him. People wanted him there. While some of those people may not believe in him anymore, there still exist those who do. And they voice their opinions as well.
They also take offense when Bush is constantly being mocked or run down. In defense his supporters verbally attack those who insult him. A battle of words ensues.
This battle has been raging for over eight years now – raging since Bush’s controversial first election. We’re in a civil war of words and opinions, using weapons supplied by our Constitution. We battle back and forth about the merit of our President, how he was elected and what he’s done since. We argue with each other about our nation’s leadership ability. While doing so, we insult and disrespect each other, and George W. Bush. We get so caught up in expressing our feelings – on television, on the radio, online and everywhere else – we forget the whole world is watching.
If we can’t respect each other OR our nation’s leader, why should anyone outside this country respect us? I’m sure our troops in the Middle East would love to answer this question.
Our current presidential election is heating up. Bush is in the hot seat. I’m not one of his supporters but I am an American though; so I support his title. I may not like who has it right now, but I wield a Constitutional weapon allowing me to suggest a potential replacement.
New Resolution #39: VOTE!
