EAST LANSING, MI — The East Lansing Police Department (ELPD) is asking for the public’s assistance as it investigates two possible hate crimes.
In two separate incidents during the week of December 18, 2025, the Michigan State University Chabad Jewish Center building, located in downtown East Lansing at 115 Albert Ave., was vandalized.
Video evidence appears to indicate that the same subject committed both acts of vandalism and, therefore, the incidents may be related.
THE INCIDENTS
• On Dec. 16, 2025, shortly after midnight, video evidence shows a subject repeatedly throwing rocks at the MSU Chabad Jewish Center. This was initially reported as a criminal, malicious destruction of property.
• On Dec.18, 2025, the MSU Chabad Jewish Center was again the target of vandalism. Video evidence shows that a single subject spray-painted Nazi symbols on the front door of the facility, before again throwing rocks at the windows and causing damage.
As a result of these multiple actions, ELPD is now investigating these incidents as possible hate crimes.
