Rashmi Travis as Executive Director
LANSING, MI –– The Women’s Center of Greater Lansing M announced the
appointment of Rashmi Travis as Executive Director, marking an important step forward as the
organization strengthens its foundation and recommits to serving women across Mid-Michigan.
For more than 20 years, the Women’s Center has provided counseling, advocacy, and support
to thousands of women navigating crisis, transition, and growth. The organization is
focused on building a sustainable future—grounded in transparency, community partnership,
and its core mission: to provide valuable, innovative resources and services in an atmosphere
that fosters mutual support, insight, and growth for women of all backgrounds and ages as they
strive to realize their own unique potential.
“Women deserve access to support that reflects their lived experiences,” said Travis. “Equity
means recognizing the real barriers women face—whether related to income, culture, or
access—and working alongside them to remove those barriers. My goal is to ensure every
woman who comes to the Center feels seen, supported, and equipped to move forward.”
Travis brings more than two decades of experience advancing women’s and children’s health in
Mid-Michigan. Most recently, she served as a Prevention Specialist at Eaton RESA, with
additional experience in program development, community health strategy, and cross-sector
collaboration at both the county and state levels. She has also mentored emerging public health
professionals and contributed to workforce development initiatives across the region.
“As a leader, I focus on understanding both systems and lived experiences,” Travis said. “That
means identifying gaps, reducing stigma, and building pathways to care that are practical,
respectful, and effective. When women are supported in making informed choices about their
health and well-being, entire communities benefit.”
Board leadership emphasized that Travis’s appointment comes at a pivotal time for the
organization. “We are confident in Rashmi’s leadership and her deep commitment to equity and
community-based care,” said Lauren Colton, Chair of the Board of Directors. “She brings both
the experience and the vision needed to guide the Women’s Center through this period of
renewal and growth. We are actively strengthening our financial position and expanding
partnerships to ensure our services remain accessible to those who need them most.”
The Women’s Center continues to prioritize collaboration with community partners and is calling
on supporters, donors, and advocates to play an active role in its future. “Mutual support is at
the heart of everything we do,” Travis added. “When communities come together—through
partnership, advocacy, and investment—we can create meaningful, lasting change for women
and families.” Community members interested in supporting the Women’s Center’s mission can
