Plain Talk 4-13

By Frank Risper

I talk to my oldest son, Gianni, all the time about being the kind of person who does not just talk about getting things done but actually gets things done.  He is 13 and I do not think that he is listening to me at all.  So I will share my feelings on the subject with you.
From what I can see about people, there are three types of people in the world:  those who makes things happen, those who watch things happen and those who wonder what happened.
Take a moment and ask yourself, which one are you.
I asked myself that same question.  I have found that I am a mix of the three.  I try very hard to be the kind of person who makes things happen because that is my personality.  I also believe in making things happen so  it is only natural that I try and ingrain that same thought process into my son.
I know that being a person who makes things happen starts with having good work habits that is very important in life if you are going to be a “doer” or a leader.
I started working at the age of 11 years old.  I worked after school stocking shelves, sweeping floors and working the meat counter.  I was tall for my age and my employer thought that I was older than I actually was.
I have worked since then.  God willing, I will be 50 this year.  I have held my current job for 26 years.
I say that so you understand that I know a little bit about establishing good work habits and discipline.
Sometimes I sit and listen to people’s conversations about what they were thinking about doing or what they wish they could do.  We tell ourselves that we will do it later or that we do not have the time.
We tell other people that we are going to do something, but we never do.  It is strange why the people who always say they are going to do and do not do it, get upset when others start to devalue their word.
Listen, if you think that what you need is not there, find it.  If you cannot find it, make it.  If you cannot make it, find someone who can.  If you do not have enough money to pay them, work harder, longer or cut back on wasteful habits.  If you have done everything mentioned, borrow funds or get a line of credit.   Do not just sit back and do nothing.
The point is to “GET IT DONE”.
There are no ‘buts’ so big they cannot be moved.  Once you move your ‘butt’ everything else will follow.
Sorry, this is so short but I have some work to do…….
Remember to trust in God only.  Seek after a pure heart and in doing that, you please God.
