Myron Sheldon Freeman, Sr. Esq.
Myron Sheldon Freeman, Sr. Esq. was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. He grew up in a modest home with his mother, father, an older brother and a younger sister and has lots of fond memories of those formative years. After high school and a year of college, he was drafted into the army and a life change. Uncle Sam got six years from him as a military policeman and he got a partial education and a new direction for his life. After the military, he completed his undergraduate degree and landed a position on the corporate Audit Staff of a Fortune One Hundred Corporation. Although he gained much experience and consistently climbed the success ladder with his employer, he got a bit restless and decided he needed a new adventure; so he packed up his things, his young son and daughter and headed north for a new opportunity. He came to Lansing in the early 80’s in search of a change.
He says the rest is history…well, not exactly. His family here in Lansing helped in getting him situated and with his new job on the financial staff of General Motors, a good sitter and a good school for the kids, life was looking good. He also met the real reason he was destined to be here in Michigan…his wife, Dee Freeman. He knows he’s been blessed with a wonderful and healthy family; with an exceptional career in both the private and public sector, many close and dear friends and a blessed church home-Friendship which is lead by his loving pastor and first lady, Rev. and Dr. Stone.
He is a strong believer in education and can be a good example for some of the younger people who need to work on their own preparations for a successful life. He got his CPA (Certified Public Accountant) designation right out of college-passing the exam on the first try-after attending the University of Kentucky for the majority of his undergraduate studies and subsequently graduating from Cleveland State University with a BBA in accounting. That particular designation helped his career a great deal, yet he wanted to have more and to reach higher and applied to Thomas Cooley Law School and was readily accepted. He worked hard in school, on the job and at raising a family and realized anything is possible if you want it and have some moral support to help get you through it…whatever it is. He also now has a CFP (Certified Financial Planner) designation, as well.
Mr. Freeman knows he has been extremely blessed throughout his lifetime. He has decided to reach out and help as many youths as possible that will listen and apply themselves. He comments how he has always enjoyed working with many organizations in our community and is a huge supporter of many others. He’s been a co-chair sponsor of Uplift Our Youth Foundation since its inception; former Board member of the Greater Lansing Urban League, the current chair of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Commission; a member of the NAACP and an officer in his fraternity, Omega Psi Phi. Being in the legal and financial world all his adult life, Mr. Freeman says he is proud of his role in co-founding one of the longest running investment clubs in the state. He hung out his shingle, practicing law for a few years, which was a great experience. He has worked with a number of high profile athletes and even now takes on clients on a selected basis. He has partnered with others to form several small businesses and is happy to contribute regularly to a number of organizations, which help our community’s disadvantaged.
Mr. Freeman has been blessed with a number of professional positions in his career, including Lead Senior Auditor for Eaton Corporation, Resident Die Room Comptroller for General Motors, Legal Counsel for the Michigan House Fiscal Agency, Legal Counsel of the Wayne County Commission, Director of the Wayne County Commission Fiscal Agency, and Finance Director for the Michigan Broadband Development Authority. He currently serves on the Executive Staff of a Bureau within the Michigan Department of Energy, Labor and Economic Growth.
