Business Profile: CAPITOL MACINTOSH

1.  How long have you been in business and why Apples?

Capitol Macintosh has been in business a little over 3 years now.   The company began in May of 2006 as an offshoot of Eubulus Computer Solutions.

Our belief in the Apple operating system and its’  ease of use was the key reason to stick with Macs.  At Eubulus we worked on both Apple’s and Windows computers – we loved working on the Macs, they have fewer problems (potential revenue) and working on Windows is a pain.

2.  We know that you moved from Frandor to Michigan Avenue, why the move?  Also tell us you no longer repair PC’s?

That is correct we do not work on Windows PC’s.  We moved to our current Michigan Avenue location for several reasons.  We needed a smaller space; and wanted more exposure – Michigan Ave has been a great location for us!  Lots of road traffic and very easy to get to.

3.  Why would a person or company  switch to the Apple computer?

There are a lot of reasons:

a. Quality. Apple desktop and laptop computers are rated #1 by Consumer Reports for repair history, tech support, and consumer satisfaction. Apple leads all other reviewed computer manufactures, including Sony, Dell, and HP in all those categories. Any computer can have tech problems, but statistically Macs are much less likely to have them happen.

b. There are still no viruses for Operating Systems (OS) 10.5 in the wild, and there never have been. Of course, this could change, but Apple has proven it has built an extremely secure OS. Apple is committed to keeping the OS secure and up-to-date as well.

c. You can run multiple OS’s on any Intel-based Mac. Mac OS X, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 2000, Linux, Unix etc. If you buy one Mac and install Windows, it’s like owning two or more computers. Unix and X11 are already installed. Windows can be downloaded over the web. No PC can effectively run the Mac OS at all. For many people, especially web designers and scientists, this is a must-have feature.

d. Awesome multi-media architecture. Macs are ready to make high quality media projects out of the box with iLife and the extremely multimedia-friendly OS X. Macs are ready to run ultra high-end, cutting edge multimedia apps as well, such as Shake, Avid, etc.

e. High resale value. It’s a pain if you want to buy a used Mac, but great if you are selling one. Macs retain the highest resale of any computer in the industry. This makes it somewhat easier to upgrade to a new Mac in the future. Macs retain high resale value because they tend to be extremely reliable.

4.  Is it easy to switch from a PC to an Apple?

Very easy.  Of course there’s some orientation a user must recognize, but Macs are very easy to use right out of the box.  Transferring data – music, pictures, email and documents – from a PC to a Mac is a cinch.

5.  What are the most popular items sold?

The laptops are the most popular item we sell.  They all come with built in wireless capability, a camera for chatting or video conferencing, and Apples awesome suite of software products.

6.  What is the newest and hottest Apple product on the market?

The iPhone has dominated the Apple news for the last few years and it is a fantastic product!   Apple TV is also making headway as more people integrate their computer with their home audio/visulal studios to take advantage of the tremendous content – movies, educational progr amming – available on iTunes.

7.  What kind of groups are available to new Apple users.  Do you offer online support?

Yes we do a lot of online and phone in support.  Apple also has an amazing amount of support available on most everything hardware to software related.  Across the country there are hundreds of Apple Macintosh User Groups, MUGS, our own Lansing group, LAMALUG, meets on the 3rd Thursday of every month at LCC.   The group has new novice users to very experienced and knowledgeable users.  Each meeting, in addition to answering questions, they have a feature speaker.  Topics have ranged from how to make a movie using Apple’s built in iMovie application; to keep track of your family history using some of the genealogy .

8.  Apple users are considered to be unique in many ways.  What have you observed over the years?

There’s a saying “once you go Mac, you never go back”  that’s been around for a long time.  Apple users to tend to be more fanatical about their computers than Window’s PC users.  I think that comes from elegant design of any Mac to it’s ease of use in making the user computer experience what it should be:  hassle free.
