LANSING, MI – The 10th annual African American Parade and Festival will be held on Saturday, September 26th in downtown Lansing, Michigan. The parade begins at 11:00 a.m. followed by the heritage festival. The celebration will salute and honor the music and message of the late icon Michael J. Jackson.
“Our parade and festival celebration will be a great time which will feature great marching bands, floats, music, food, and fun,” said event founder and chairperson Dr.Michael C. Murphy. “Despite the uncertainty of the economy and loss of several major sponsors, our planning committee is determined to hold the best event ever for the greater Lansing community. This will be a wonderful, fun-filled time for our children, youth, and families.”
The event is generally held in August. The date change will allow for more bands and participants. Last year more than 20,000 people attended the one-day event.
The grand marshalls and entertainment schedule will be announced in the weeks ahead. For more information on the parade, festival participation, or sponsorship call 517- 484-2180.
