Local Singer and Soaring Eagle SuperStar Winner opens for Poetry and Music Event on Michigan’s Capitol Steps

LANSING, MI — On Thursday, July 22, 2010, Shaton Andrews will open for the 6th Annual Poetry in the City event on the Capitol steps.  Shaton sang her first solo at the age of six in a school program. That was the day she realized that singing was her passion. Hailing from Lansing, Michigan, Shaton has a very vast love of music, and sites Patti LaBelle, Jennifer Hudson, Alicia Keys and Jill Scott as some of her biggest inspirations.

This powerful vocalist has won first place in several singing competitions throughout Michigan, including: Motor City Pride Idol (2008), Club Pink’s Motor City Idol (2009),  Soaring Eagle Casino’s SuperStar contest (2009), and Skoryoke Live Band karaoke contest (2009).

Shaton was given an opportunity to perform with David Hernandez, Gina Glocksen, Michael Sarver, and Alexis Grace, who are all top-ten finalists from the popular television series “American Idol” in December, 2009, for the American Stars Holiday tour.  On February 17, 2010, this mother of two continued to be an inspiration and followed her dreams by taking her talents to the legendary Amateur night competition at the world famous Apollo Theater in Harlem, NY.

Shaton has always said that she is “truly grateful for the gift” she has been blessed with and feels that it is too precious to keep to herself. In the process of writing for her first original album, Shaton plans to continue entertaining and share her talents with everyone.
