[Jo:] What’s up Home Slice?
[Mo:] I know that you have wanted to say that for a while. But it is fitting this time because Home Slice Pizza was our next stop on our list.
[Jo:] I was skeptical to review a pizza joint because, well, it’s pizza. What can you say about pizza? Plus, we’ve already reviewed Geno’s Pizzeria in Lansing (which was excellent by the way) and I didn’t feel that I’d have anything more to say.
[Mo:] I knew that Jo felt this way but each time we passed by Home Slice, we caught the scent of freshly baked bread and spicy pepperoni cooking and I convinced him to reconsider.
[Jo:] Yeah – Fuh-Get-a-Bout-it (in my best NY accent).
[Mo:] Home Slice Pizza claims to make the best New York Style pizza (thin crust) and features hand-thrown pies made from organic ingredients. Not many places know how to make NY style pizza so I hoped for the best.
[Jo:] On the menu was, you guessed it, pizza. From the traditional cheese slice or one with pepperoni and mushrooms; to the “White pie with spinach” or the “Eggplant and Parmesan” pie. They also have salads, sandwiches and calzones too.
[Mo:] I really wanted to be daring and tried the “White Clam Pizza” which included chopped clams, Pecorino Romano cheese and garlic. It was sharp-tasting, rich in flavor and made me feel like I was instantly transported to New Haven where this pizza is a long-time favorite.
[Jo:] I had the “Margherita” which included mozzarella and parmesan cheeses, organic tomato, garlic and fresh basil. The sauce was really delicate and light and I could really taste the parmesan cheese throughout the toppings and the crust. But of course, we couldn’t stop there. We had the Home Slice Originals
[Mo:] The cheese slice and the pepperoni slice! Picture it, thin crunchy crust with hot bubbling cheese melted over a rich tomato sauce. Once you bite down you experience a tangy blend of flavors in your mouth. Did I do this slice justice, Homie?
[Jo:] Absolutely! And let’s not forget to mention the size of these slices. They were enormous! About the size of a small throw pillow!
[Mo:] Home Slice definitely gets two thumbs up from both of us. I now understand why the place is always crowded when we drive by – no matter the time.
[Jo:] We’ve even seen people sitting out on the curb waiting to either place their order or pick up one for the road. So if you are in the mood for some great pizza, it’s worth the wait, go to Home Slice.
