News Spotlight: Homicide suspect arraigned today


Kelvin Monroe Bates arraigned today by Judge Hugh Clarke and bond set on the following charges:

**1 count of Homicide – Open Murder – Life offense

**1 count of Assault with Intent to Murder – Life offense

**2 counts of Carrying a Concealed Weapon – 5-year Felony

**1 count of Felony Firearm 2-year Felony

 

Judge Clarke covered all charges with a single, encompassing bond statement: No Bond, remanded to the county jail.

On August 31,  2012 at  10:59 p.m. officers responded to the 3100 block of Turner Street on reports of a male that had been shot. Upon arrival, officers located a male lying on the ground and having trouble breathing. The male was covered in blood and found to have sustained multiple gunshot wounds. LFD was immediately on scene and transported the victim to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased on September 1, 2012 at 12:33 a.m. The victim’s family was notified early into the investigation. The victim’s name is Micah Arnold, 36 year old Lansing resident.
