Contracts are big part of our lives. I wanted to talk to you about the subject a little bit. First of all, I am not a lawyer or an expert on the subject, not by a long shot. But I do have a point of view.
When I need accuracy, I head straight for the dictionary for a break down of what a word means, The Funk & Wagnalls Standard College Dictionary states that a contract could be an arrangement or settlement by agreement. It also states that it is a formal agreement between two or more parties, especially one that is legally binding.
So a contract is basically an agreement between two or more parties. It can be written or it can be an oral agreement.
With that said, let us take this a step further with a question. Do you see marriage as a contract? In a marriage do you have two or more parties? In a marriage is there a formal agreement between the parties to be committed to a union between two people? Are the words ‘for better for worse, in sickness and in health, till death do you part’ a part of a contract?
With the divorce rate as high as it is, people must not have much respect for contracts. Would you agree? If so, what does that say about us as a nation of people when we do not honor our own words? It seems to me that a contract is just something to be broken in this day in age. I hope to God that I am wrong!
But I do wonder about it. Look at some of the professional athletes. Some are always looking for a way of their contracts that they signed? Where is the commitment?
Your word is your bond. Maybe, we need to take a long look at ourselves and what we stand for in this nation. Are we a nation of people with honor or not? You cannot build something great by starting at the top. You most certainly need the help of others to build everything that you have.
On United States money there is a statement that says “In God We Trust”. Money is legal tender for all debts, public and private, right? Everyone uses money. Could the statement on our money be looked at as a contract between this nation and God? If so, then the question has to be asked, “Has the contract been broken?” Think about it and while you are thinking; remember to keep the faith, trust in God only and seek after a pure heart. God will be pleased.
