Last year, the readers of this great publication were invited “Inside the Mind of a Sportsaholic”. While in there, ladies were given some thoughts on how to “Think Like A Sports Fan”. Parents, coaches, and student-athletes received “Tips For A Successful Season”. Readers were even introduced to “My Three Girls”.
Through the opportunity offered to showcase my writing by The New Citizens Press, doors opened to write for websites based out of Washington D.C., Philadelphia, and Cleveland. However, my heart is, and always will be here in Lansing. There are plenty of good, local sports stories that do not receive the coverage they should. Here are a few plans to change that.
One of the biggest requests made around town were by parents for student-athletes to have articles written on their behalf. With that being the case, we will be introducing a monthly Student-Athlete Spotlight. We are looking for student-athletes in grades 8-12 who are not only excelling on the field, or court, but especially in the classroom. They do not have to be the stars of their team. They can come from any sport (not just football or basketball), and they can be male or female. Please send an e-mail to me at lemarwilson@gmail.com, sharing what sport the student-athlete plays, what school they attend, and why they are excelling both on and off the field, or court. Three students will be selected and featured at the end of each month.
There are many former athletes from the Lansing area that are achieving success either in their sport of choice, the boardroom, or throughout the community. We will be looking to reach out, and interview them. There are enough success stories of people who began playing on the same courts and fields as our children today. This will be an opportunity to introduce our children to Lansing sports alumni who have been successful around the world.
Finally, there will be more stories similar to the ones mentioned at the outset of this article. There are many thoughts that run through my mind, and that I enjoy sharing. Some will be funny, some serious, but hopefully all will be insightful, and leave you all looking for the next one.
So, please allow me to reintroduce myself. My name is Jimmy L. Wilson, Jr., and I would like to welcome you Inside the Mind of A Sportsaholic. To those who have visited before, thank your for your support and feedback. It was truly appreciated, and I look forward to receiving it again. To the new visitors, it is my hope that you will enjoy your visit, and get comfortable enough to reach out with any feedback, be it positive or negative. Thanks for reading, and we will talk again next issue.
I’m Jimmy L. Wilson, Jr. and I approve this message
