Suspect Arrested in West Cavanaugh Arson

On October 14, 2020 at 9:55 p.m., Lansing Police were dispatched to an apartment in the 1000 block of W. Cavanaugh on a burglary complaint.  Dispatch updated responding officers that the suspect, Keyona Amaris Young , 26-year-old female, had made entry into the apartment and was attempting to set it on fire.       
 
Upon arrival, officers located the suspect,  the victim 27-year-old male and 2 small children.  Officers observed an active fire in the apartment and begin to evacuate tenants.
 
Lansing Fire Department responded and were able to put the fire out.   The investigation determined the following: the suspect and the victim were in a previous relationship. They have children together. The suspect arrived at the victim’s apartment and forced entry. The suspect physically assaulted the victim and then set fire to the apartment. Police were called.
 
The suspect was placed under arrest and transported to the Lansing Police Department Detention Facility. The victim did not require medical treatment for his assault injury. The children were not physically injured.    
 
American Red Cross assisted the victim and other tenants who were displaced due to the fire damage.Completed and detailed reports with regard to this case were submitted to the Ingham County Prosecutor for review on formal charges. They were issued on the suspect and she was subsequently arraigned in 54-A District court in front of Magistrate Millmore on the following: Count 1: Arson / 1st Degree, Count 2: Home Invasion 1st and Count 3: Domestic Assault.
