Kyle Powell’s legacy as a man dedicated to uplifting others will be honored at Power 96.5’s Annual Charity Softball Game. 96.5 vs. the Westside YMCA will be the game to be watched and support. It will be held on Saturday, August 18th at 3pm at the Erickson Field 4220 South Canal Rd.
A Charity Bowl-A-Thon, will also be held,Thursday, August 23rd, 7-10pm at the Royal Scott Bowl Alley at 4722 W. Grand River in Lansing, MI.
Proceeds of the softball game and the bowling event are to support the K.P. Memorial Fund. Last year’s recipient was Joshua Moore.
Kyle Powell was a former on-air personality for WQHH Power 96.5 and Sportscaster for WLAJ ABC 53 who died from complications from a liver operation.

Local Teams to Run Mackinac Bridge on Labor Day
LANSING, MI – Local youth and adult mentor pairs will add a wellness component to their mentoring relationship by training from now until September 3 to participate in the Mackinac Bridge Labor Day Run. The Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sports coordinates the Mentoring: A Running Start program and some of the teams selected include:

The Governor’s Council hosts the run on Labor Day across the “Mighty Mac” at sunrise with 300 Michigan residents and the mentor teams. The teams have been training this summer for the five-mile run. Mentoring: A Running Start hopes to provide lessons in team-work, goal setting, accomplishment and developing healthy habits that will last a lifetime. Mentor teams will enjoy a two-night stay at Mission Point Resort on Mackinac Island, a bicycle rental to tour the island, boat transportation to and from the island, bus transportation to and from St. Ignace, and free team uniform including running shoes. Enjoy an Irish Festival “Great Lakes Feis” at the Lansing Center
The Great Lakes Feis held on August 19, 2007 at the Lansing Center located at (from the Gaelic word meaning festival) is Celtic event that you can get involved in or see amazing competitions and performances! A Feis has generally been restricted to an Irish dancing competition only, but the Great Lakes Feis is comprised of dancing, baking, music and art competitions. The festival is also open to spectators to come and enjoy the show. All performances will be judged and medals will be handed out to the top winners.

Lansing Bless Fest
The Lansing Bless Fest is a music festival for families and people of all ages hat features Christian gospel and contemporary rock music it will be held August 24 – 24, 2007 at the Riverfront Park off of Grand Avenue in downtown Lansing. It is across the street from Lansing Community College at the intersection of Shiawassee. Bless Fest kicks off Friday, August 24 in the Riverfront Park in Lansing. Not only are the concerts free, but the food is too. All day Friday and Saturday, there will be too stages you can visit to hear various styles of music, such as gospel, rock, pop, alternative, county church choirs, and hip-hop. One stage is geared towards teenagers and young adults. There will also be tents set up for children’s entertainment, information booths, family dining, and shelter from the sun or rain. Capitol Lawn Farmers’ Market promotes fresh, local produce and more
August 22-September 3, during the 13 days of the Michigan State Fair, at the fairgrounds in Detroit; and September 13, “Buy Fresh, Buy Local – Select Michigan Day” at the State Capitol in Lansing.
LANSING, MI — More than 25 Michigan farmers and specialty food producers displayed and sold their wares today at a special “Buy Fresh, Buy Local” farmers’ market on the east lawn of the Michigan State Capitol. Patrons were able to purchase a wide variety of products – from fresh Michigan fruits and vegetables to jams, honey, maple syrup, fresh baked goods, wool products and more. Farmers also sold a wide variety of cut flowers, annuals, perennials and herbs.
The farmers’ market, sponsored by the Michigan Department of Agriculture’s (MDA) Select Michigan Program and the Michigan Food & Farming Systems (MIFFS), with funding from the USDA Agricultural Marketing Service, and additional support from the Michigan Farmers Market Association and the Food Bank Council of Michigan, promoted the benefits of buying locally and made a personal connection between farmers and consumers.
“This farmers’ market not only highlights the state’s specialty crops, but also promotes the importance of purchasing locally grown and processed Michigan food and agricultural products,” said MDA Director Mitch Irwin. “Consumers who buy locally get a tastier product grown in their own state and keeps money circulating in their communities.”
Michigan grows more than 200 agricultural commodities, making it the second-most diverse state in the nation and generating $60.1 billion for the state. Buying locally means consumers receive fresher, high quality foods, and these local purchases support local farmers, agri-businesses, rural communities and Michigan’s economy. In fact, if every Michigan household spent just $10 per week on Michigan-produced food, it would generate nearly $40 million each and every week.
“Michigan has more than 160 community farmers’ markets across the state, and these markets are a great source of fresh, local food and agriculture products,” said MIFFS Executive Director Elaine Brown. “Thanks to community farmers’ markets and over 220 on-farm markets and the easy access to fresh local foods they provide, more and more people are realizing the taste, health and economic benefits of buying local. If you enjoyed today’s market, make sure to visit your local farmers’ market to purchase more great
Michigan products.”
This event is the first of four special farmers’ markets planned for this year promoting the benefits of local food. The 6th Annual Angel House Bachelor Auction!
This year’s Angel House Bachelor Auction will be the best ever, filled with excitement, prizes, and fun. The Annual Bachelor Auction to benefit Angel House will take place in the Cadillac Club DeVille Room, on Saturday, September 15th. The event will begin with a cocktail reception at 6:30 pm. Angel House, a division of Child & Family Services, is a shelter and child assessment center (CAC) for children who are in crisis and have been removed from their home for safety reasons. The CAC provides a child friendly environment and state of the art facility to conduct forensic interviews. Angel House staff, prosecutors, police and protective services workers come together for these interviews so the children will not have to be interviewed more than once. Located in Mason, Angel house serves Ingham, Eaton, Clinton, Gratiot Jackson Shiawassee and Genessee Counties.
