Capital Area Community Action Network’s Prayer Day Book Project

LANSING, MI —  Capital Area Community Action Network (CCCAN) has partnered with Mount Hope Ministries Prison Outreach Program to provide good used children’s books and Christian DVD’s, CD’s and literature to those who are affected by the Michigan prison system.  Two prisons are also looking for text books.
Some inmates do not have the ability to read.  The time  spent in prison can be put to good use in teaching them to read.  Reading is essential for many jobs upon release.
The children’s books will also be used for the waiting rooms in the prisons.
Each year Mount Hope Ministries visits about 1,200 prisoners every week.  This huge job includes 41 facilities (1 woman’s prison and 2 youth offender programs).  In one year they touch over 64,000 people who are some way involved with the prison system.
Our original goal was 500 books but because of the success,  we have refocused our goal on 1,000 by August 1, 2007.
