INGHAM COUNTY, MI — Prepare to immerse yourself in the enchanting world of spoken word as the heart of Lansing beats to the rhythmic pulse of Poetry in the City, igniting the month of July with artistic fervor. This annual celebration, tracing its roots back to 2005 when it blossomed as Poetry in the Park, a brilliant concept conceived by The New Citizens Press newspaper, has become a cherished tradition.
Now in its 18th year and presented by non-profit The New Citizens Press Community Action Network (TNCP-CAN), Poetry in the City serves as an enchanting bridge, connecting individuals within the Lansing community and beyond through the power of words, phrases, and participates in literacy development in captivating public spaces, including our city parks and the majestic state Capitol.
On the evening of Thursday, July 20, 2023, rain or shine, we invite you to join us on the Capitol steps from 7-9 pm. Bring your blanket or lawn chair, settle in, and allow the vibrant tapestry of this year’s electrifying lineup of poets to captivate your senses. A kaleidoscope of poetic styles awaits, each more vibrant than the last.
Moreover, we extend a special opportunity for members of our community to share their own poetic creations, with each aspiring wordsmith receiving three minutes in the spotlight. All are welcome to sign up and participate, but we kindly request that the performances remain family-friendly, free from profanity, as Poetry in the City remains a cherished family event.
Now, let us introduce this year’s esteemed featured performers, who promise to deliver an unforgettable evening of artistic brilliance:
