Greater Lansing Celebrates Peace Day
12:00 – 1 p.m.
Lansing City Hall on the Plaza
Peace Partners of Greater Lansing invites the public to attend a free celebration of peace in honor of the annual International Day of Peace. The celebration will be held on the plaza in front of Lansing City Hall (124 W. Michigan Avenue, Lansing) from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. (inside lobby in case of rain).
The event will feature music, information tables and the ceremonial presentation of a Michigan-made cedar Peace Pole. The six-sided peace pole is inscribed with the phrase “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in twelve languages, including each country where Lansing has international relationships: China, Mexico, Japan, Russia, Ghana, Italy, Korea.
This year, more than 3500 Peace Day events will take place on September 21 in 200 countries around the world, including all 192 member nations of the United Nations.
The Peace Partners coalition was formed to establish public awareness of Peace Day. Nine organizations have so far joined the Peace Partners.
The celebration of International Day of Peace 2007 is designed to bring people together to foster a global culture of peace.
