Many people dream of doing big things in life. As a kid some envision becoming a doctor, a lawyer or even a police officer. For one Trinidadian man, his dreams of being able to help provide for his family placed him on a journey he never thought possible.
Garth Anthony Voisin moved to the United States more than 10 years ago from his native Trinidad and Tobago. Growing up in a faith-filled family, Voisin knew early on that in life if you work hard, you will reap the rewards.
“Having worked for more than seven years in the airline industry, I always felt like I wasn’t living up to my full potential,” he says. “I wanted more and wanted to touch people in other ways.” Growing up, he always had a knack for athletics. Cricket, soccer, volleyball you name it and he was involved. Fitness played a big role in his life. Realizing that he enjoyed working out and lifting weights, Voisin quickly developed a passion for being fit and eating healthy.
As a result, he found himself competing throughout the United States, in fitness competitions, modeling, starring in music videos and even landed on the cover of KRAVE magazine, a national publication focused on black men’s style, health and fitness.
While on this new journey of fitness and physique development, Voisin discovered another passion, writing.
He said, “From a young age, I enjoyed writing and being able to express my thoughts on paper,” he said. “However, as I got older, I learned to appreciate the benefits of journaling and recording my experiences both good and bad.”
Voisin’s passion for writing and self-expression has put him on yet another journey, and has added the title of author to his resume.
He lamented, “Over the last 10 years, I have done many things acting, modeling, fitness and training, but I truly believe my calling is through inspiration and writing.”
In September 2010, Voisin released a published compilation of self-written quotes that he has recorded over the years. The book titled “The Journey Continues: Inspirational Food for Your Journey,” continues to garner great attention all over the country. The book is designed to inspire readers through their own personal journey and has journaling note pages for individuals to record their own thoughts and expressions. Filled with words of encouragement and inspiration, each page is a reflection of Voisin’s life.
Voisin said, “My journey has truly been one of trial and triumph, much of my inspiration comes from the continued support and encouragement of my family,” he said. “My father always taught me to never give up, no matter how hard it gets and that is what I am teaching my son.”
Voisin says he wants his life to be a testimony to others of how faith and focus can see you through. He believes that everyone deserves support and encouragement in life. Voisin intends to continue on his journey towards success, while providing inspiration to others along the way. He says he will continue to balance his focus on fitness and writing and truly believes that God’s calling for his life is to be an inspiration to others through his personal testimony of faith, family and endurance.
Success most certainly follows this young man and we can be sure to see more of him in the future. Voisin says his ultimate goal is to simply make a difference in the lives of those he meets along the way.
Voisin said, “I want to help people believe in themselves, keep a positive outlook and look forward to all the blessings God has in store for them.”
These days, Voisin spends much of his time traveling throughout the country doing book signings and making appearances at high schools to speak to young people about their future.
