MI Governor Whitmer’s 2022 Accomplishments

Governor Whitmer’s first term as Michigan’s governor has been a historic four years.

On December 10, 2020, Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed Executive Order 2020-193 creating the bipartisan Protect Michigan Commission within the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) to help raise awareness of the safety and effectiveness of an approved COVID-19 vaccine and to educate and help protect the health and safety of Michigan residents.

LANSING, MI—Throughout the first four years of her term, Governor Gretchen Whitmer has worked hard to deliver real change, make a difference in people’s lives, and make Michigan one of the best places to live, work, and invest in the country. The history books will show that it was not easy, especially during the pandemic. Somehow, Governor Whitmer and her team continue to relentlessly work on programs that she feels will benefit the state of Michigan as a whole despite the challenges. The vitriol from Republicans, minor controversies nor a kidnapping plot prohibited her from doing what she thought was the best for Michigan.

“Since I took office, I have been laser-focused on the fundamental kitchen-table issues that affect Michiganders every day: education, skills training, childcare, infrastructure, water, and good-paying jobs,” said Governor Gretchen Whitmer. “I’m proud of the progress we’ve made over the last four years to fix the damn roads, expand access to education, skills training, and childcare, invest in clean water, create jobs, lower costs for working families, and pay down $14 billion in debt without raising taxes by a dime. Going into my second term, I am committed to working with anyone to build on this progress and continue to make a difference for Michiganders across our state. Let’s get it done.”

“Since taking office in 2019, Governor Whitmer and I have worked hard to build a more just, equitable, and prosperous Michigan where everyone can thrive,” said Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrist II. “I am proud of the work we have done to reform Michigan’s criminal justice system, close healthcare and economic equity gaps, and connect more Michigan families and small businesses to economic opportunity through high-speed internet. For the next four years, I look forward to standing tall with Governor Whitmer to deliver real change that makes a difference for every Michigander.”
