Be Like Water By Joseph Cardillo

Written by Denise Turney

When I first saw the title of this book and then the cover I was at once intrigued.  I’m glad I picked it up and read it.  It was a book that provided insights and life-lessons that may well benefit readers for years to come.  As Joe Hyams, author of Zen In The Martial Arts, states, Be Like Water is “a fascinating and helpful book for everyone trying to make sense of our crazy world.”
Be Like Water is about going with the flow, not “going along” or doing what others dictate.  Be Like Water is a book about inner power when connected to the Creator of the universe.  The book uses martial arts techniques to show readers how they can accept (not worry and fight against) changes that come into their life.       Additionally, the book illustrates how just as water is powerful and cleansing so too the book’s readers can connect to true power and improve their own and others lives by pacing themselves, conquering fear, overcoming force with softness, following their bliss, channeling their energy, safeguarding their strength, gaining self-respect and more.
The first words in the book start, “More than 70 percent of the earth’s surface is water.”  Every human needs water to survive.  Animals, plants and much, if not all, of the earth’s habitation need water to survive.  Be like water is a book about being at peace with oneself, family, friends, colleagues and other created beings.  Water is gentle and yet it is powerful, two seemingly opposites that merge into one and create one of the universe’s most potent cleansing forces.
Whether readers would like to conquer fear and anxiety, develop a more compassionate mode of communication with others, or simply learn to be at peace in whatever situation they are in, Be Like Water offers tools, techniques and exercises to help the reader obtain what they seek.  The author is a black belt in Kenpo karate.  In Be Like Water he draws upon sixteen core principles martial artists rely on to be strong yet supple, agile yet fluid, sensitive yet powerful.  Well-paced, engaging and inspiring, Be Like Water promises to aid readers move through challenging times in their search for a more-enriching life.
