Alane M. Laws-Barker, M.D., a staff physician with Sparrow Midwest Obstetrics and Gynecology, has been in practice at Sparrow since 2004.
Dr. Laws-Barker received her bachelor’s of science degree in biology from the University of California and her medical degree in obstetrics and gynecology from the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. She completed her residency through MSU and Hurley Medical Center in Flint.
In addition to her practice at Sparrow, Dr. Laws-Barker serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor for the MSU College of Human Medicine.
An active member in the medical community, she has served as vice president of the Mid-Michigan Medical Society and is a member of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Michigan State Medical Society and the American Medical Association.
Dr. Laws-Barker has presented Breast Cancer Awareness seminars for the UAW, churches, Sparrow Health System and many other organizations. She also implemented self-breast examination seminars for beauty salons titled “A day of Health and Beauty.”
She also sculpts lifelike infant dolls some of which have been auctioned for charities and the money used to purchase hospital equipment for newborns.
Dr. Laws-Barker also devotes time to the Okemos Public Schools Parent Teacher Organization, Mount Hope Church, a teen mentoring program and a local quilters club whose members donate quilts to families in need.
She enjoys a variety of family activities and is very busy with the sports, church and musical activities of her children.
One of the family’s favorite hobbies is raising and showing French Bulldogs.
