Terri Lee keeps listeners up-to-date on what’s going on in and around the Capitol City during The Tom Joyner Morning Show heard weekday mornings on Lansing’s Power 96.5.
Terri has been part of The Tom Joyner Morning Show since the show’s launch in October, 2006. What she likes most about being on the show is the opportunity to be a part of a popular morning show and the fast pace it provides.
“I really enjoy being able to provide our listeners with the information they need in order to get their days started off on the right foot,” Terri says. “In Michigan, you never know from one day to the next what the day will bring – particularly when it comes to the weather, so it’s my job to keep our listeners informed about everything they need to know when they get up in the morning…. But, more than anything, I love being a part of The Tom Joyner Morning Show and the Power 96.5 family.”
Prior to joining Power 96.5, Terri was the Mid-day host for WXLA 1180 AM. She was hired for that position almost immediately after graduating with honors from the Specs Howard School of Broadcast Arts in Southfield, Michigan, located just outside of Detroit. She credits the school with helping her land her dream job and putting her on the path to success.
Terri started taking classes at Specs Howard in April 2005 and graduated with a diploma in Radio and Television Broadcasting with a Concentration in Radio in December 2005. “The day of my graduation – when I delivered the Commencement address before my fellow classmates and my family – that was one of the proudest moments of my life,” Terri says. During the graduation ceremony, Terri also was awarded a plaque honoring her as “Most Informative News Anchor.”
In addition to graduating from Specs Howard, Terri is also a graduate of Wayne State University, holding a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communications/Electronic Journalism.
Terri also credits the experience she’s gained at Detroit radio station WWJ Newsradio 950 for helping her achieve her goals. She’s been a writer/producer there for the past five years. “WWJ is all news, all the time, so we’re constantly tracking down stories and writing and updating stories. Having gained a great deal of experience in such a fast-paced, demanding environment, I was more than ready for the challenges here in Lansing,” Terri says.
“To be able to work at a job you love isn’t like work at all,” Terri adds. “Every day is exciting for me because every day is different. I also have the opportunity to meet so many interesting and inspirational people. Some of my most memorable interviews since arriving in Lansing
,   Which interviews were the most fun for her? “I really enjoyed having a chance to interview Will Smith during the Detroit premiere of his highly-acclaimed film, “The Pursuit of Happyness;” comedian Katt Williams during his visit to Detroit’s Fox Theatre; and hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons during the Detroit stop of his Hip-Hop Summit on Financial Empowerment,” Terri says.
