Best, Brightest and Most Beautiful Update: James McCurtis

LANSING, MI — James Mc Curtis Jr. was honored in the 2006 “Best, Brightest and Most Beautiful”  edition.  Our goal is to introduce you to people who are making strides towards making the Greater Lansing Area look great.
James McCurtis Jr. has become the manager of the Crime Victim Services Commission for the Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH). He joined MDCH as an assistant to the director and a public relations liaison in 2007. Later that year, he was named the public information officer and spokesman for the department. A native of Maywood, Illinois, McCurtis graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in Journalism and Mass Communication.
He earned his Master’s in Business Administration from Davenport University.
McCurtis was the higher education and police reporter at the Iowa City Press-Citizen for four years, and he was a reporter at KWWL-TV in Cedar Rapids for a year. Here in Michigan, he was the higher education and general assignment reporter for the Lansing State Journal, covering k-12 schools, judicial issues, police/crime and Michigan State University.
McCurtis also worked for two years in the House  Democratic Communications Office, where he was responsible for legislative analysis, writing speeches, newsletters, and press releases. In addition, he worked with elected officials on bills to fight rising home heating cost, health care,
insurance, crime fighting and other issues relevant to Michigan’s citizens.
