Lansing area fans have something to be excited about because the ladies of Jazz in Pink are set to headline the annual community summer music series An Evening of Smooth Jazz in Holt, MI on Friday, July 31st BMRW Promotions announced Friday.
The event takes place at Holt High School’s Margaret Livensparger Theater, 5885 W. Holt Road, Holt, MI 48842. The show starts at 7:30 pm and doors will open @ 7pm. Tickets are $25 and are on sale now.
Jazz in Pink artists include
• Gail Jhonson leads the all-female ensemble “Jazz in P!nk”that features artists such as Karen Briggs, Althea Rene and Mariea Antoinette. She has her own band “3 Piece Suit” in Los Angeles and is also an educator, author of 3 music method books and composer for the musical Overcome, Overjoyed. Jhonson’s CD Pearls garnered the nod in the 51st Annual Grammy Awards. She is the music director for international guitarist, Norman Brown.
• Billboard charting recording artists Chelsey Green and The Green Project are often described as “passionate, electrifying, and innovative.” The Green Project presents violin re-identified and more.
• Robin Bramlett is what we call a unique find. She is a composer who has a flair for melody and a bassist who has a distinctive groove all her own! This Jazz in Pink funkmeister, also plays with Miki Howard, Shanice Wilson and other notables, has a brand new album out, THIS IS MY LIFE. Robin wrote and produced the entire project featuring a delectable collection of bass-driven songs that will inspire you to live, laugh and love!
• Saxophonist, Jazmin Ghent was born in Heidelberg, Germany and raised in Huntsville, Alabama. Her interest in music began at age 5 when she began taking piano lessons and became the Sunday School pianist at age 8. After being introduced to the saxophone in middle school, she discovered her passion for performance, teaching and began playing professionally. Career highlights include: winning National awards such as the NAACP’s ACT-SO competition, performing on Bobby Jones’ Gospel Show, graduating from Florida State University, winning the 2014 Smooth Jazz Cruise “Show Your Talent” competition and the release of her cd project earlier this year. Jazmin is currently completing the master’s program in music education at Tennessee State University in Nashville.
• Darlene Moreno came onto the scene in 1995 touring with double Grammy winning vocalist, Barry White. Armed with music styles that include R&B, Funk, Contemporary Jazz, Gospel, Roc, Pop, Reggae and Alternative; she’s played with orchestras jazz units of only 4; with music ranging from easy listening to reggae…hip hop to pop…rock to jazz. Darlene has performed with, written, produced or toured with Mya, Tevin Campbell, Jon B, Rick Braun, Jeff Golub, Paul Taylor, and Gerald Albright. She comfortable with electric or acoustic, steel and nylon Allee Willi, Althea Rene, Andrae Crouch, Barry White, Billy Preston, Cece Worrall Rubin, Celeste Curiel , Chaka Khan, Chi-lites/Tony Hicks, Christa Borden, Chuck Strong, Club Nouveau (LIVE).
The evening will also include an opening performance by Lansing’s 496 West with special guests. The band has been touring a bit lately will be performing at a few Michigan festivals including Alexander Zonjic’s Jazz on the Ave in Dearborn, the Flint Jazz Festival and the opening event for the Muskegon Shoreline jazz Festival.
