New York Times bestselling author Debbie Ford offers ten profound questions that may forever change the way you make choices “ultimately empowering you to fulfill your life’s dreams.
The Right Questions isn’t a feel-good, personal commentary that relays what the author herself did to begin to make better choices. Debbie Ford is an internationally recognized expert in the field of personal transformation. Her works have been translated into twenty-two languages. She is the founder of The Ford Institute for Integrative Coaching, a personal development organization that trains committed individuals with the skills, distinctions, and processes to facilitate a unique and impact-ful form of coaching. Ford’s intent to "inspire humanity to lead fully integrated lives" is well served in The Right Questions.
Each chapter of the book presents a new question readers can ask themselves before they make a choice. The fact that no choice we make goes without a consequence is made clear. It is that truth that Ford uses to guide her readers to the revelation that it is, in fact, the choices we make that make our lives, that shape, form, strengthen or weaken our God-given destinies. The book begins by illustrating what choice is. It then gives its first call to action to readers by encouraging readers to wake up from autopilot. I found this to be one of my favorite parts of the book. Having read many self-help books, I was certain I knew what "autopilot" was. I was wrong.
Ford uses examples of clients she has worked with to illustrate the impact and benefits of each question. I found myself making notes in the open space on some of the pages. Although there are no workbooks or exercises to complete with The Right Questions, readers may find themselves well served to bring a journal or notebook with them while they read The Right Questions. Doing so will allow readers to monitor their own growth while working their way through the book.
Ford uses a smooth style of writing throughout the book. Her style is fluid and engaging. It is as though she is speaking to each reader individually while the book unfolds. Whether you are facing a large choice that you fear will impact your life in ways you would like to avoid or whether you would like to require tools that aid you making wise small, daily choices, The Right Questions will prove valuable. After all, as the author states, "Some choices are easy to make; some are more difficult. Some will lead us straight to success, while others will bring us face-to-face with failure. Some will seem earthshakingly important, while others will seem completely insignificant. But what’s imperative for each of us to know is that, no matter how large or small, easy or difficult, each choice that we make, individually or collectively, alters the direction of our lives.”
