Book Review 1-12

By Kiyana Sakena Horton, Angela Williams (Illustrator)

Each reader gets to write his/her own story.  Throughout you will discover heart strengthening quotes such as:  “The eyes believe themselves; the ears
believe others; and the heart believes the truth.” – Ibo Proverb.  Famous authors like Alice Walker are quoted on various pages of this, your personal, journal.  Early in the journal Alice Walker, the author of The Color Purple states, “Every small positive change we can make in ourselves repays us in confidence in the future.”  One of my favorite quotes is by Oprah Winfrey.

It is a powerful quote banked in time, coated with truth.  “I am a product of every black woman before me who has done or said anything worthwhile.  Recognizing that I am a part of that history is what allows me to soar.”

Readers who take the time to jot down their thoughts for the day and record specific events that happen upon their lives as they dance with the earth, with all of creation, not only get to take a closer glimpse at themselves –
they also leave footprints in the sand for the coming generations.  The Heart Believes The Truth allows you to do this with ease, with purpose, with a spirit of celebration!  It makes for an excellent gift.  It is the best journal I have come across to date.  At the very back of the journal are pages where the reader may insert portraits if he/she so desires.  In doing so, the journal allows pictures and the reader’s very own words to work together to create a unique piece of history.

Why a journal?  Why The Heart Believes The Truth?  As Nikki Giovanni so eloquently stated, “I only want to reclaim myself.”
