Excuse me, are you listening?

Dear Readers,

I love the Fourth of July.  It is Independence Day.  It is the day that you can serve hot dogs and hamburgers for dinner and no one can get upset.

We can all use a day to express our independence.  What have you become independent from?

I was reading about a young lady who decided almost 8 years ago that she would stop smoking.  She used her day to let everyone know that she now has clean lungs.

I smiled when I read that but also wondered how many people have a clear heart?

Is your independence detrimental to those around you?  Your child may express their independence or what they think is being “grown up”  but please make sure you put them back in their place.  There are people who will have to deal with the monster you created later.

To all the self employed business owners, this is a happy day for you too!  If you are doing what you love, salute yourself.  For all of the hard work that you do and the dedication that you put into your work, I give two thumbs up.  I know I work long hard hours.  I enjoy being independent.  This week I was asked if I was going to reconsider getting back into politics.  I said absolutely not.  I told them that I like being independent and doing what I say I am going to do.

To all of the single parents who are holding it down, your hard work will pay off. Be mindful that your tireless work is being noticed, if not appreciated.  Make sure that even though you are independent that  you create a “circle of love” or a “tribe”.  Those people will hold you down during times of darkness.

To the people who conquered addiction!  I love you so much!  Seriously,  I cannot even imagine the strength and fortitude that it takes to kick an addictive habit.  Not only do you have to leave the drug behind but also most of the people who you called “friends”.  You also have to deal with people who will not forget the criminal activities or sins of the past.  I have seen the ravages of drugs.  You also deal with your own pain, losses and shame.  Your independence should be commended. You get a triple thumbs up for moving through that space.

For the new employee, enjoy not worrying about the bills as much.  You have independence from the television, the worry or stress.  That is a good thing.

If none of the reasons that I have listed here pertain to you, figure out something that made you independent!  Celebrate you during the next 4th of July.  Celebrate your accomplishments.

Set off some fireworks.  Enjoy your family and/or just be grateful for internal peace.  I smile because those who live by firework junkies will have no solitude in their homes if they go to sleep before 12 pm. However, find some peace in your heart because you should always be fantastic to you!

Love people,

Rina Risper
