Excuse me, are you listening? Black women are at risk during pregnancy.

Dear Readers, In a viral TikTok video (photo from video0, Karrie Jones from Texas was seen in triage answering questions while screaming in pain while in labor. Jones was denied care for 30 minutes before finally getting into a room where she delivered her baby 12 minutes after being seen. I wonder if her experience would have been different if a doula had been present?

I have a passion for advocating for birthing families. Expectant parents should consider having a doula. In the past two weeks, I have seen two mothers having labor pains only to be dismissed. I will be writing more about this in the next edition.

Here is the information about doulas that I had the privilege to work on.  Educate yourself about the role of doulas and how they can assist birthing individuals.
