LANSING, MI — There were balloons music and laughter at the First Annual Legacy Community Celebration that was recently held at Lett’s Community Center.  The celebration was held in honor of Kenneth “Cookie” Frazier Jr., who died in a tragic drowning accident at Tawas Point State Park in East Tawas on Friday, July 25, 2008.  He drowned in Lake Huron while on a weeklong camp trip with other students from the Lansing area.

He was a 12-year old student at Otto Middle School who had many friends. “Cookie” was a devout member of Lansing Church of God and Christ.  He was also a member of the churches step team, youth choir, youth praise team and hospitality committee. “Cookie” was born on February 22, 1996.

The goal of the Kenneth “Cookie” Frazier Jr.’s Children’s Scholarship fund is to provide need-based scholarships to low income Lansing, Michigan area children attending Lansing Parks and Recreation Youth Programs.  Providing scholarships to low -income families will help motivate and encourage self worth in our less fortunate children.  They actively seek donations from individual, corporations and foundations so that we may continue to help children and families.

The festivities included water safety information, food, prizes and games.  There was gospel entertainment as well for the hundreds of attendees.

His parents Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Sr. and Yalanda Frazier thanked the people who contributed their time, donations, energy and expertise to make the day special.
