Historic Lansing Tower Apartments Gets a Facelift

By Deborah M. Walker

Stunning views, historical architecture and spacious apartments, Lansing Tower Apartments, affectionately known as, Lansing Towers, has it all. Located in downtown Lansing, it offers luxury living at an affordable price.

Residents marvel at the eye catching décor and convenient location says Bryon Babcock, property manager at Lansing Towers.  A spectacular view overlooking the downtown area makes Lansing Towers the place to be marveled said Babcock.

“One of the biggest things we got here is a beautiful view,” said Babcock. “One side of the building you’re looking right across at the capitol dome, the other side you’re looking at all the federal buildings, the museum, the Hall of Justice. The scenes are just phenomenal.”

Babcock said living at Lansing Towers gives residents an urban feel without the congestion of the big city. Those looking for a spacious apartment with all the amenities should make Lansing Towers their first choice.

“It’s kind of like living in a high rise in New York City or Chicago. That’s what makes it so cool here. There’s no place else in Lansing that really offers you that combined into one…There are some wonderful apartments offered in downtown Lansing, but they do not offer the historic architecture found at Lansing Towers,” said Babcock.

Opening in 1968, Lansing Towers was owned by the same owner until purchased 1 month ago by Princeton Enterprises. The new owners are busy. Renovating the apartments and its facilities Lansing Towers is getting a well-deserved upgrade. Propelling the building into the 21st century, the newly renovated apartments are sure to suffice the most meticulous renter.

“We’ll be upgrading and renovating the units so that they will be a little more modern. Newer appliances, new carpet and new vinyl; all the good stuff,” said Babcock.

The renovations do not stop at the apartment units themselves. The pool will be resurfaced and over the next couple of years the exterior will be painted as well as resurfacing the parking lot. Babcock said keeping the historical look and feel of Lansing Towers is most important. The renovations are to update the building not destroy its character.

“We like the original architecture of the building and that’s what we’re trying to maintain. Most of what we’ve got to do is repair type stuff,” said Babcock.

“Mainly it’s just a matter of the place needing a real good scrub which we’re taking care of that as we go, cleaning it all up,” said Babcock.

There are other upgrades to the building as well. A new fitness center will be completed in the next couple of weeks explains Babcock. The new fitness center will not only keep residents fit, it will add a trendy feel to the atmosphere of the building informed Babcock.

“We’ve already picked a space, started cleaning that up, and got it painted. We’ve ordered new fitness equipment that will be pretty stunning when it’s done,” said Babcock.

Anyone can apply to Lansing Towers says Babcock. A standard credit and background check is done on all potential residents explains Babcock. Babcock says the application process is standard for all Lansing apartments.

“You come in, fill out an application, we run the basics; the credit and background check that every community in Lansing does and it scores you,” said Babcock.

Babcock says the credit and background checks determine the amount of deposit needed to move in which can range from $250 up to 1 month’s rent.

Babcock says the downtown area is a great place to live. Downtown Lansing has received a face life over the years and is safe for any family stated Babcock. Those who are weary about living in downtown Lansing should note how clean and quiet the neighborhoods are now.

“Because you’re right next to the state and federal buildings it’s probably the safest neighborhood in Lansing. It’s a highly patrolled are we have State Police patrol the site,” said Babcock.

“The city of Lansing has worked very hard to make the downtown area safe over the last 15 years,” said Babcock.

Lansing Towers offers some special amenities to its residents in addition to a new fitness center and restored pool. A new community center will be completed around the same time as the fitness center. Free Wi-Fi in the lobby is also offered to residents and guests.

Babcock says the most advantageous aspect of living at Lansing Towers is its commodious location. Lansing Towers is walking distance from the heart of downtown allowing residents to take advantage of all that downtown has to offer.

“You’re close to everything downtown,” said Babcock. “You’re a couple of hundred yards from the historical museum, you’re three blocks away from all the new businesses that have opened up down on Washington strip. You’re in the Washington Square area so you’ve got shopping right downtown, you’ve got restaurants, night clubs. It’s a really neat place to get a nice urban living experience.”
