July is National Ice Cream Month

LANSING, MI — Arctic Corner, formally Tate’s Freeze, is located at 314 E. Grand River Avenue in Old Town.  It  has finally reopened after being closed for 5 years because of a water pipe issue while it was still Tate’s Freeze.

Owner Sharon Lycos refinished the building and they were open for business in May of 2009.  Mark Adkins, Manager,  said that the Old  Town crowd has been very receptive to the business.  He also said that the building began as Tastee Freeze in 1951.

April Woody walked several blocks with her daughters, Alexis Woody-Brown, 13 and Teasia Brown, 11, to enjoy ice cream sundaes at the Arctic Corner.

When asked what she liked best about Arctic Corner opening, Alexis  Woody- Brown,13, exclaimed, “The lemon ice cream is awesome.”

Ms. Woody reminisced about when her mother would bring her to the  same ice cream shop when she was her daughter’s ages.  She said she  was upset when she heard that Tate’s Freeze was not reopening in 2004.

“I was not happy about Tate’s not reopening. Someone told me that there was a new ice cream shop in Old Town and I was surprised and  happy that I can get ice cream in the same place that I did when I was a child.”

Mark Adkins said with a smile, “Everyone loves ice cream. It makes  people happy and it is basically recession proof.”
