Lansing City Clerk Chris Swope Announces Early Voting for Primary City Election 

LANSING, MI — With just one week remaining until the Lansing City Primary Election,  approximately 15,000 absentee ballots have yet to be returned. The Lansing City Clerk’s Office urges voters to use one of the 13 official City of Lansing drop boxes to return their completed ballots. Drop boxes are open 24/7 and will be available until 8:00 PM on Tuesday, August 5— Election Night. Drop boxes are securely monitored and checked daily to ensure timely collection.  For drop box locations and additional information, visit www.LansingVotes.gov

On the Lansing City Primary ballot, voters will narrow down the list of candidates for Mayor, City  Council At Large, and 4th Ward City Council, and vote on a proposal to renew the City Park  Millage. 

During early voting, Lansing residents can experience a process similar to Election Day by feeding their own ballot directly into a tabulator. Results will remain confidential and will not be reported until 8:00 PM on Election Day. Lansing City voters from any precinct may vote early or  drop off a completed absentee ballot at the REO Elections Office during the following times: Wednesday, July 30 – 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM 

  • Saturday, August 2 – 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM 
  • Sunday, August 3 – 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM 

The REO Elections Office offers free parking and has a secure 24/7 drop box on site. It is located at 1221 Reo Road, just northwest of the intersection of S. MLK Blvd. and Jolly Rd., and is accessible via CATA Route #9. In addition to early voting, voters may visit the Reo Elections  Office Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and until 7:00 PM on Wednesday, July  30 to: 

  • Register to vote (with proof of residency) through 8:00 PM on Election Night Request a walk-in absentee ballot through Monday, August 4 at 4:00 PM
  • Voters registering on Election Day must provide proof of residency and may vote either by absentee ballot at the Clerk’s Office or at their assigned precinct. 

“Voters can choose to vote at home, vote early, or vote on Election Day; with so many convenient options, I hope this leads to higher turnout than in similar past elections,” said Lansing City Clerk  Chris Swope. 

As an alternative to the REO Elections Office, voters may also visit Lansing City Hall, 124 West  Michigan Avenue, 9th Floor, weekdays between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM to register to vote and/or request an absentee ballot in person.
