“It is our hope that having this mayoral candidate forum will promote transparent, informed, and participatory democracy.” said Harold A. Pope, President of the NAACP Lansing Branch. “We want to make sure candidates address real community concerns, not just campaign talking points.”
Natasha Atkinson, NAACP Lansing Branch Political Action Committee Chair added, “Next week’s event is one of two forums we will be hosting for the Mayor and City Council elections respectively. These candidate forums align with NAACP’s 116-year mission of uplifting the voices of marginalized and underrepresented communities. Specifically, the forums provide an opportunity for members of the community to ask the questions that matter to them most and make truly informed decisions on who will represent their values and ideals. NAACP Lansing Branch is honored to provide this opportunity for the Lansing community.”
