Are you pursuing a degree in behavioral health and seeking practical experience in Michigan? The Michigan Behavioral Health Internship Stipend Program (MI-BHISP) offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience while receiving financial support.
What Is MI-BHISP?
MI-BHISP is designed to increase the number of qualified behavioral health professionals in Michigan by providing stipends of up to $15,000 to eligible student interns. This initiative supports students pursuing degrees in fields such as Behavior Analysis, Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work, Professional Counseling, and Psychology.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the program, applicants must:
– Be enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program at an accredited U.S. college or university leading to a career in behavioral health.
– Secure an unpaid internship in Michigan at one of the following settings:
– Community Mental Health agencies
– Pre-paid Inpatient Health Plans (PIHP)
– Tribal Health Centers
– Indian Health Service/Tribally Operated Facilities or Programs/Urban Indian Clinics

Program Requirements
If selected, participants are expected to:
– Fulfill all assignments required by the internship site throughout the program duration.
– Ensure the site supervisor completes the necessary verification forms.
– Sign and submit a Stipend Agreement to the Michigan Public Health Institute (MPHI).
– Provide an unofficial school transcript to MPHI.
– Submit a completed W-9 form to MPHI for payment processing.
– Social Security Number and Date of Birth are required for payment.
– Participate in program surveys and other evaluation activities.
Stipend Details
The stipend is a one-time award distributed in two payments, with amounts based on the total hours required by the internship site:
– 80-200 Hours: $5,000
– 201-400 Hours: $10,000
– 401-600 Hours: $15,000
