LANSING, MI — Trinity AME church , located at 3500 W. Holmes Road is exploring an innovative New Year’s Eve event – bowling. This out of the box idea is trying to attract, youth, young-adults and their families to this family affair. Trinity has purchased all 40 lanes of the newly renovated bowling alley Sky Lanes located at 5141 S. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. It used to be the Metro Bowl. There will be gospel music playing, and the bowling is unlimited and shoes are included.
Reverend Nathan Dixon said, "We are doing this event because we realize that many youth and young-adults do not attend the traditional Watch Night Service and we wanted to put on an event that would not only attract youth and young-adults but that would attract families, and those who are apprehensive of going into the church."
Reverend Nathan Dixon added, " At 11:59 am, we will ask everyone to stop in order that we might bring in the the new year properly with prayer."
No stranger to bringing innovative ideas to the city and caring about the citizens who would not usually be able to afford to go, Trinity church has made this event free.
There have been many people, businesses, and organizations who have helped sponsor this event in order that those that cannot afford it can attend. However, they are still trying to secure sponsors. Proper dress is required, as well as proper behavior. On December 31, 2007, from 9PM – 1AM at the bowling alley for a night of fun, food, and fellowship.
